The Abegg Love Letters

To those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ; mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance. -Jude 1:1

As Missionaries with United World Mission, we serve in Latin America to provide support & training to missionaries on the field. We work with Latin Partner Ministries that focus on everything from theological education to medical care, from children’s homes to retirement homes. Our goal is to come along side organizations & amplify their impact for good and the Gospel.

🌎 The Abeggs -Health, Hope and Honoring God in the Process

Love Letters from the Abeggs:
"…to those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: May Mercy, Peace, and Love be multiplied to you." (Jude 1:1)

Health, Hope, Healing

and Honoring God

in the Process

Health -Claudia's Update:

Nearly 6 weeks ago, just before Christmas, we sent out an urgent prayer request for Claudia's health when she was hospitalized due to a "thyroid storm". Her health had been deteriorating over previous months, but we didn't understand the signs. (See our post Health Emergency & Prayer Request). Since then, it's been a roller coaster ride with swings from hyper to hypothyroidism, strongly affected emotions, struggling to get an endocrinologist appointment, many hours with various specialists, subsequent emergency room visits, and her blood pressure, heart rate and energy fluctuations having no discernible pattern. We're hopeful that this morning's blood tests will provide the information needed to begin a healing process.

At the same time, we're thankful for the Lord's mercy shown through an extremely attentive and caring general practitioner who's quarterbacking these efforts, and even calling Claudia on her own time to check in. We've had friends help with cleaning as well as errands, and even assisting with appliance repair needs that took us by surprise. The cards, notes and texts of encouragement are huge blessings, and our hearts are sound in knowing that the Hand of the Lord is present and using these temporary trials ultimately for His Glory and our good (2Cor. 4:16-17).  Please continue praying for the Lord's guidance as we push ahead in this process, for His healing on Claudia's body, and our desire to share the Hope we have in Christ in all circumstances (1Pet. 3:15).
Fighting back with joy and silliness in the midst of trials!

Hope -God's Word in the Midst of Trials

On New Years Eve Sunday, the morning after Claudia's most recent emergency room visit, I had the privilege of wrapping up our church's Advent series with a sermon on Colossians 1:15-20 "Our Hope is in Christ Alone". What an encouragement this was to me in not only receiving from, but having the privilege to teach on that powerful passage.  In God's providence, the preparation of this sermon was an encouraging wrap up to a personally challenging year, and a blessing to proclaim that in everything, at all times, and for all time… Christ is sufficient!
New Year's Eve sermon that ministered to my soul right when I needed it!

Prayer Requests from the Field

Along with Claudia's health please be praying for our ongoing leadership team development for the Central America and Caribbean region of United World Mission. It's been a joy to work with numerous couples and individuals over the past few years, and as we progress into 2024 we're at a point of seeing significant fruit from our time together. Please pray for the couples involved, for wisdom and discernment on future projects, and the Holy Spirit's guidance as Claudia and I transition many of the loads we've been carrying over the previous years.

Please pray for one of these families in particular, Wes and Cindy Williamson. Wes recently underwent cranial neurosurgery for a neuroma (benign tumor). Thankfully news as of this AM is that all went well and he's now in a recuperation and evaluation process. Please pray for the Lord's mercy as he heals and God's provision and encouragement for the entire family in the process.

Please pray for an upcoming series of meetings in March that will be held in Costa Rica concerning the Regional Training Hubs being developed throughout Latin America. More than likely Claudia will not make this trip due to obvious health reasons, but we ask you to pray for wisdom and direction as we continue advancing a project that has our international Latin partner ministries at it's heart. Our last in-person gathering was in Colombia, 2022.

Memorial for Birgitta Abegg

Thank you to those who have written about a date for my mom's memorial. We are hoping to be able to gather in the Walnut Creek area on the 28th of April and will let everyone know as soon as possible.
