The Abegg Love Letters

To those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ; mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance. -Jude 1:1

As Missionaries with United World Mission, we serve in Latin America to provide support & training to missionaries on the field. We work with Latin Partner Ministries that focus on everything from theological education to medical care, from children’s homes to retirement homes. Our goal is to come along side organizations & amplify their impact for good and the Gospel.

Travels, Trauma & Testimonies - Ministry in Central America & the Caribbean

Ready...Set...Go!

This is a quick update in anticipation of travel for some significant meetings.

First stop: Guatemala!

I will be visiting Guatemala to attend the board meetings of a new partner ministry to UWM "Agua Viva". We're excited about this new partnership as well as what appears to be a tailor-made (God made) opportunity for UWM missionaries Gil and Danna Leon who many of you have been interceding for over the past year. I'm looking forward to deepening UWM's understanding of the Guatemalan government-enforced transition of closing all children's homes in the country and moving the children into foster care homes. As you can imagine, this presents significant dangers in the area of human trafficking. Even in the US vetting of foster care homes is difficult and far from perfect, still, we have multiple safeguards to protect the vulnerable. Thankfully Agua Viva Chidrens home has transitioned into a school with the vision of caring for the kids and reaching out to the parents. To protect "their kids", many of the Agua Viva staff have even chosen to become foster parents themselves to the kids they've provided care to over the years. Please pray for my time with Agua Viva, as well as the other ministries I will be visiting. I'll also be looking for housing options for our family as we're planning on spending multiple weeks in Guatemala this summer in order to "dig deep" with many of the other ministries we're considering partnering with. Also, please pray for our missionaries in Guatemala, the Leons (who have just arrived) and the Johnsons (see below).
The Johnsons have been in Guatemala for many years, and have assisted in connecting me with many of the ministries we're excited about. Check out their most recent video update to get an idea of what ministry in Guatemala looks like.

Next Stop: Mexico!

Both Claudia and Kevin will be attending UWM's Mexico regional conference (even as we are in the process of planning our own Central America / Caribbean conference). This will be an opportunity to connect with the Mexico regional staff, exchange ideas on the mission mobilization from Latin Americana to the worldwide mission field and even provide an anti-human trafficking seminar to the missionaries of this region. We'll fill you in more after the conference, but for now please pray for strength, wisdom, and God's spirit to guide each and every person involved in the conference, for travel mercies and overall health.

Thank you so much!
