The Abegg Love Letters

To those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ; mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance. -Jude 1:1

As Missionaries with United World Mission, we serve in Latin America to provide support & training to missionaries on the field. We work with Latin Partner Ministries that focus on everything from theological education to medical care, from children’s homes to retirement homes. Our goal is to come along side organizations & amplify their impact for good and the Gospel.

Giving Tuesday to Abegg's Missionary Account
You've seen them before, our United World Mission missionaries in Central America and the Caribbean. Claudia and I are privileged to serve this group of people as they serve churches, orphanages, medical clinics, seminaries and many other national ministries throughout our region.

As you consider giving towards Gospel Centered Ministries this Giving Tuesday, consider assisting us in our year end campaign to prepare for the necessary travel and equipping of both UWM missionaries and emerging Church leaders throughout Central America and the Caribbean.

Visit our Giving Tuesday donation page or catch up on some of our previous newsletters.

🌎 Giving Tue & Gospel Leadership in Latin America

Giving Tuesday to Abegg's Missionary Account

Greetings Friends and Partners in the Gospel…

A Happy belated Thanksgiving to each of you!

We hope you had a joy-filled celebration in remembrance of God's goodness, care, and mercies in the midst of the challenges He allows into our lives.

For the first time in many years, and because of some of the trials mentioned in previous newsletters, we didn't have our traditional gathering at our home, but enjoyed a wonderful celebration at the home of dear friends from church, providing the fellowship we desperately need but without the work we simply couldn't manage this year.

As we close in on a New Year, we are kicking off a Year-End-Giving campaign tomorrow on Giving Tuesday!

Our goal is to raise an additional $10,000 in tax deductible donations by the end of the year to help with Regional Leadership Training, both for UWM leadership as well as Leadership Development and Discipleship for the many national partners we work with throughout Central America and the Caribbean.

Throughout the month of December, I'll keep you posted on the progress towards this goal, so if you're a regular donor and choose to include an additional gift, whether tomorrow on Giving Tuesday, or before the end of the year, please send me a note letting me know and I'll add it to the tally.

We offer a heartfelt THANK YOU for your ongoing prayers, intercession, and encouragement as we close off a difficult year, and look to our Lord for each step into 2024. Each one of you are truly an encouragement as we move ahead. We pray that you are blessed and encouraged as you prepare to celebrate Christ's incarnation in the coming weeks, and anticipate all our Lord has in the coming year!

🌎 Recuperation time... Abeggs Electronic Love Letter

Love Letters from the Abeggs:
"…to those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: May Mercy, Peace, and Love be multiplied to you." (Jude 1:1)

Greetings Friends and Partners in the Gospel…

This update was originally to go out last week, but with the passing of my mom, Birgitta Abegg, I chose to postpone until we could share that news first.Thank you to everyone who's reached out and encouraged us and continues to pray for our family. We have been greatly blessed by each of you.

-Kevin
"The Great Commission is carried out through Individuals who makeup the global Church, each person sharing the same vocation or holy calling of making disciples, using their individual occupations, giftings and abilities to do so as part of, and through the local church."

That has been a repeated theme for me over the past six months, from visits with ministries in Honduras, to meetings with Central American denominations, to my message at a mission conference a few weeks ago. The importance of understanding our unified vocation -our holy calling to extend God's kingdom and "make disciples" is vital, and an essential part of anyone's life who professes to follow Christ.  In living out our disciple makeing calling we get to see how God uses our unique giftings, abilities and even occupations to accomplish His purposes as part of His local Body, the local church. Missions cannot be "outsourced" (says the guy who serves in a para-church ministry), but must remain intimately connected to, and an integral part of the local church, working with and through the parachurch as appropriate, but never relegated or fully surrendered.

So, before a brief update, I encourage each of you to consider how God is using and calling you to walk out your own Holy VOCATION calling of making disciples of Christ in your current occupation, whether in an office, on the road, or wherever you find yourself. Or perhaps in preparing the next generation of disciple makers currently growing up in your own home, or a home you're somehow connected to.

Christ commanded us: "…make disciples of all nations…teaching them to observe all I have commanded you. And behold I am with you always…" (Mat. 28:19-20)

If you're interested in further thoughts on local church & parachurch in missions, please visit a blog post of mine from a number of years back.
And now, a quick catch-up:

Thank you for praying Claudia and I through nearly eight weeks of travel between Honduras, a UWM Regional Leaders conference, a visit out West for a missions' conference and some time with family.

As always, the Regional Leaders gathering was a huge encouragement as we met with our eight counterpart couples from around the globe and various other leaders to consider programs and priorities for the coming year and the overall needs of the global church, particularly in the areas of leadership and leadership training. Please pray for wisdom as we dig into the next phases of these Training Hub Programs and clarify how to better equip more trainers in their own cultural contexts.
Our week at Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church's missions conference in CA was a wonderful time of reconnecting with decades old relationships and beginning new friendships. I got to share on the vocation vs. occupation theme which I opened this letter with, and Claudia taught two classes on how to make her amazing Chilean empanadas. Overall it was a number of days of fellowship and encouraging one another as we follow the Lord and His call to make disciples of all nations!
While we were out West, Claudia and I also had various meetings regarding the needs of my mother as she moves through the final stages of Alzheimer's, and how to walk out this difficult time emotionally and practically concerning end of life needs. At the same time we had the blessing of visiting with our dear friends and fellow missionaries to Chile, Joe & Tammy McCroskey who I shared about in a previous newsletter. It's with mixed emotions I share that Joe is now with His Lord and fellowshipping with the saints who have gone before him. Please keep Tammy and their children in your prayers.
As I mentioned, the travel these past months has been significant. Until recently we thought we were simply physically exhausted, but we now understand that Claudia is wrestling with more than being travel weary. She's seen various specialists, and has appointments lined up into the coming year, but so far various indicators point toward issues with her thyroid or possibly liver, but we have no definitive diagnosis yet. Please keep Claudia and all of us in your prayers as we seek the Lord's wisdom and medical discernment to understand more and address what is affecting her body.
We wish you all a very blessed Thanksgiving, and we include each of you in our prayers of gratitude this week.
May the Lord bless you and your family during this time.

Please pray as well for:

Financial support -Giving Tuesday is almost here…

Claudia and I are so grateful for our intercessors who continue to engage in spiritual warfare and prayer to see His "kingdom come & will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven…".  Your prayers for our work are a blessing beyond measure! We're also grateful for those who have chosen to financially support us in our ministry. As we approach the end of the year and Giving Tuesday, please consider our ministry for a special gift or monthly support. Thank you.

🙏 Abegg Update -Passing of Birgitta Abegg

\
Love Letters from the Abeggs:
"…to those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: May Mercy, Peace, and Love be multiplied to you." (Jude 1:1)

Greetings Friends, Family, and Partners in the Gospel…

It's with a heavy heart and mixed emotions I share with you that my mom's battle with Alzheimer's ended last Monday, November 13th. Though we will miss her dearly, we are grateful that she is suffering no longer in her weary body.  We appreciate your prayers as we walk through this time as a family, and we ask you to please take a moment to read about her life and leave a note of remembrance or encouragement to the family at: Tribute to Birgitta Abegg. On that page, you will also find details on the yet-to-be-scheduled celebration of life.
Thank you so much for your intercession, and your ongoing encouragement as we seek to follow the Lord in obedience to to His Great Commission.
- Kevin & Claudia Abegg
