Honduras Report & More - The Abegg's Love Letter as we close 2018

View this email in your browser To those who have been called, who are LOVED by God the Father and KEPT by Jesus Christ; MERCY, PEACEand LOVE  be yours in abundance.       -Jude 1:1 Ministry Updates: Honduras Claudia and I just returned from spending over a week visiting, working with and caring for UWM missionaries in the country of Honduras.Thank you to all who were praying for us! We had some significant challenges on the trip, but our time was guarded and very blessed in terms of ministry, relationships and potential new partners for the future. We slept in 5 different beds over 8 nights as we moved through Tegucigalpa, La Ceiba, Balfate, Rio Esteban, San Pedro Sula and Guanabano. It was a particular joy for me to be re-acquainted with some of the ministry leaders I haven't seen since before 2013 and the UWM - LAM merger.  Claudia and I heard time after time about the need for more workers in ministry and better training for those already in the field. My heart aches for the children in gang oppressed   poverty impacted areas of Honduras' North coast were missionary Heather Braden de Maradiaga serves at Centro de Desarrollo Infantil.For the Garifuna people that Wes and Cindy Williamson work with scattered throughout the Central American coastline, having only received the Bible in their language 2 years ago. For Pastor Daniel Romero of PIER a Reformed Honduran denomination, and the loss of his cousin to gang violence only 2 days prior to our visit. For the families and children as young as 4 picking through the garbage dumps of Tegucigalpa in a horrific cycle of poverty, and the ministry Amor, Fe y Esperanzathat seeks to break this cycle. For a country suffering from corrupt leadership, little economic hope and a desperate tangible need for the gospel.  "When he [Jesus] saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." Matthew 9 Thank you to all who make our ministry possible. Scroll down for ministry updates and prayer requests, but first, here's the #'s we're working with: Over the past year we've been $1,500/month short for living and ministry expenses. Our goal is to increase our support by $2000/month by year's end. This will allow us to focus full time on ministry, put a little away for retirement (I'm hitting 50 next year) and have a small fund to cover emergencies.  In this season of "Thanksgiving" we are so thankful for those who have responded! Your commitments have pushed us over 1/2 way to our goal! Through your generosity God continues to provide for our work and family needs.  EACH of your phone calls, letters or emails have been an immense encouragement, please keep praying as we wrap up the last month of our campaign! Here's where we stand:  Oct. & Nov. supporter increases or new commitments come to $1,050/month. That's over 1/2 of the way to meeting our monthly goal for next year!   Special gifts have ranged from $20 to just over $5000 = $7,200! If we could apply this amount to our monthly needs for the next year, these gifts alone would take us to 1/3 of our year end goal. However, since we're currently not 100% supported these gifts help to provide for our immediate needs as we work through this support raising time. Thank you!!! Ministry Updates: Human Trafficking Presentations: On November 13th I was able to do a 90 min. anti trafficking presentation for a group of  local Brazilian parents and youth. After the presentation, one of the teens told me that her mom made her come, "but after all we learned, I'm so glad I was here!"  How encouraging! Please pray for future presentations and that those attending would not only learn of the dangers of sex trafficking, but to also make a difference by joining the fight and educating others.   Latin America Missions Mobalization: I mentioned in my last newsletter about multiple Mexican missionary candidates and a Costa Rican from our region who attended an orientation for new, Latin missionaries preparing to "go into all the world" in partnership with UWM. This is an exciting missiological step for UWM, developing partnerships not only as ministries that RECEIVE missionaries, but that can SEND missionaries uniquely equipped to serve around the world...but as you know in our own fund raising, mobilizing missionaries takes money. God continues to provide, but we need to plan well how best to use His resources. Please pray as we wrestle through the creation of a plan to serve new & existing missionaries with as much financial wisdom as possible. Ministry Updates: Upcoming Travel: Claudia and I will be traveling to and around Honduras to meet with UWM missionaries and partner ministries. PRAY for safety as we travel, discernment as we meet and plan with various ministry leaders and wisdom as we seek to encourage and care for our missionaries there. For multiple reasons I won't be sharing dates in this format but if you'd like to be part of our smaller circle of intercessors, please let me know.  We are also laying plans for a trip to Guatemala with a similar agenda. They are a Christ-centered non-profit organization devoted to healing and restoring the lives of those who have suffered abuse and exploitation due to prostitution and sex trafficking. They manage a fantastic program equipping women with marketable skills such as cooking, computation, sewing and business management, as well as providing anti-trafficking training not only in Latin America but more recently world wide.  Learn more at: UWM opportunities or Fundación Rahab.

Training, Travel and Trust for Provision- Updates on ministry and support

Please see our Blog for background both on our support raising effort and recent ministry. Last month, for the first time in years, our paycheck was reduced to a level ($800) that required me to dedicate time making up the difference with my carpentry skills in order to keep bills paid. We are so grateful for God's provision through my dad who, when I was a kid, "forced" me to work with him remodeling homes! I hated it at the time, but now as a family we are thanking the Lord. I've also dedicated significant time to meetings, phone calls and emails with current and potential partners, or "teammates" to get our monthly missionary support to a level that covers  family needs, ministry requirements and necessary travel. As a result, nearly half of my time this past month has not been focused on ministry projects, anti-trafficking presentations or the regional development we're called to do. However, I see in my own life, and in scripture (Rom. 8:28 & Eccl. 3:11), that God is redeeming this time by providing a deeper connection with many of our supporters, and setting us up for what we anticipate will be a powerful year  of ministry with fewer distractions. Thank you to all who have already responded to our requests, met with me and are interceding for this special time. Thank you as well to those who have indicated a desire to jump on board, I'm looking forward to talking to you soon! Please join us in PRAYER as we trust God for His provision through His people. We are 100% dedicated to His service and the service of His people advancing His Kingdom to those most in need.  Join us in PRAISING Him for the refining this time is bringing about in myself and my family. Carpentry Work: Attics are no fun in the South Florida heat! Carpentry Work: The boys lend a hand and learn at the same time! Ministry Updates: Human Trafficking Presentations: Last week I had the opportunity to present a 2 hour training to a group of Brazilian mothers and business women living in South Florida. This in turn has opened a door to do another, larger presentation to parents and students on November 13.  Please pray in advance of this time for those attending to not only learn of the dangers of sex trafficking to our youth, but to also make a difference by joining the fight. Central America & Caribbean Structure: Cluster Groups: In the coming weeks I'll be digging deeply into improving how we (UWM) care for, support and work with the missionaries in our region. It's impossible for Claudia and I to give the level of attention necessary to 35+ families and all of the partner ministries they work with, so we're working on creating a "cluster group" level to help in connecting with and caring for smaller groups of missionaries, freeing me to focus on the most urgent situations and more developmental type projects.  Please pray for wisdom in planning, communicating and envisioning those who could be involved at this level.  Latin America Missions Mobalization: As I write, multiple Mexican missionary candidates and a Costa Rican from our region are attending an orientation for new, Latin missionaries preparing to "go into all the world" in partnership with UWM. This is one of the areas I need more time to dedicate towards and look forward to that once our support raising goals are met.  Upcoming Travel: Claudia and I will be traveling to and around Honduras to meet with UWM missionaries and partner ministries. They are a Christ-centered non-profit organization devoted to healing and restoring the lives of those who have suffered the abuse and exploitation of sex trafficking and provide a recovery home for survivors, a clinic to reach those still trapped and training at many levels.
